Whether you’re working towards your fitness goals or overall personal goals, the start of the New Year is a popular time to define and set new intentions.
With 2020 being the start of a new decade, we can look back on the past ten years and use those lessons to up-level our current goal mentality.
I recommend using a fresh new journal to write your goals, daily progress, gratitude and/or affirmations for 2020.
Research has proven that writing your thoughts and goals on paper is more effective than typing. It flips a switch in our brains, so to speak, and we begin to problem-solve and make decisions.
Take notes and use the feedback for motivation to keep going until you make those goals a reality.
And be sure to celebrate your wins – big or small!!

Here are 3 ways you can create better goals!
✔️ Begin with the end in mind.
The second habit in the book: 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is to begin with the end in mind.
Having the end in mind provides you with something concrete to work towards. It also allows you to recognize what you want when you see it. It helps you to stay focused and avoid getting sidetracked with distractions.
If your efforts are not directed at a purpose, how will you know what to do every day?
Beginning with the end in mind is certainly not a guarantee that you will succeed at reaching your goal – but without it, you are almost always guaranteed to fail!
✔️ Write down your WHY
Be specific about why accomplishing your goals are important to you.
When you can put emotions behind a goal, you will be more determined to bring them to fruition.
✔️ Think about how you will FEEL when you reach your goal.
Example: “I will feel confident in who I am. I will feel like a good mom and wife who is a positive role model for her family. I will feel happy and excited for life.”
Sometimes we picture success and want it so badly, but we don’t stop to think about how it will make us feel!
By visualizing how you will feel once you achieve a goal, you are able to shift your focus and increase your motivation. This allows you to identify as that person (who you already are) and live in a way that aligns with who you want to be.
Because, guess what – whether you reach your big goal or not, you can start feeling and acting like the person you want to become NOW.
